It might be a bit nippy outdoors just now, but the sailing season will be here before you know it (fingers crossed)! So it’s that time of year when you can start to think about the spring and summer ahead and it’s imperative that you check all lifejackets and safety equipment before the new sailing season starts. It’s the perfect time to re familiarise yourself with your kit and consider whether or not you need to replace any elements or potentially the whole item.
Thankfully Crewsaver Safety Products have a range of films and guides that can take you through the processes and we’d highly recommend that you take a look.
To start with there’s a great little film explaining the need for maintenance plus some handy tips for what you should aim to do. Remember – if you look after your lifejacket correctly it will help extend it’s usable lifespan. Remember that you should be making basic checks on your lifejacket every time you use it. The film helps to clarify what you should be looking out for. What’s great is that you can do this with your family as part of the ‘getting afloat’ process and as such, instil the importance of maintenance in your children as they grow up. For all gas lifejackets it is recommended that an annual full technical inspection be carried out by a professional inspection team – these can be found on the Crewsaver website.
So if you’ve followed the checking guide you’ll need to pack your jacket away again! Even if you think you’re in the know it’s always worth watching someone else do it to, just in case. There are a number of films to help – the 150N Junior packing film can be shared with youngsters too.
Here at Nipper Skipper we offer safety equipment from Crewsaver and encourage everyone to consider carefully the precautions that they choose to take when enjoying sailing and boating. If there’s something specific that you are looking for that you don’t see on our site please do feel free to contact us via the website or email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will endeavour to help. Here’s to a great season ahead 🙂
